FAQ & INFORMATION

  • WHY BUILD A NEW CLUB?

A New Standard for Colorado Soccer

At Olympus FC, we believe that elite training should be defined by talent and work ethic, not financial status. As a board and staff of Veterans, we understand the unique sacrifices made by military families in the Front Range community.

We are proud to introduce a Competitive-Only model that breaks away from the "pay-to-play" mentality of US Soccer. We believe it is our duty to support those who serve, ensuring that the children of our military community are never forced to go without premier soccer development. Whether your family is active-duty, veteran, or retired, Olympus FC is committed to providing a place for your athlete to thrive, backed by a scholarship fund that bridges the gap for those in need.

  • TOURNAMENT VS LEAGUE SCHEDULING?

    League-Based Competition

A League-Based schedule centers on a structured season through organizations like US Youth Soccer or US Club Soccer. Teams compete in a set division (e.g., ECNL, GA, or Colorado State League) to earn points toward a championship or cup qualification.

    • Structure: Typically 6–12 matches per season, often played in a "home and away" format.
    • Costs: League fees range from $600 to $3,000, plus referee fees for home games. Post-season tournaments (Conferences/Cups) usually require additional entry fees.
    • Travel: Colorado Soccer Association League matches can require up to 3 hours or more of travel (e.g., Purblo to Boulder or Manitou Springs to Aurora). Regional leagues may require 3–7 hours of travel or more.
    • Supplement: Clubs often add a few tournaments to increase the total match count.

    Tournament-Based Competition

A Tournament-Based schedule focuses on concentrated weekends of play hosted by clubs or sports organizations. These events provide a variety of competition levels and exposure to college scouts.

    • Structure: Most tournaments guarantee a 3-match minimum. Formats vary between "Round Robin" (group play leading to a final) and "Showcases" (3 fixed matches for scouting).
    • Costs: Entry fees range from $400 to $1,300 per event. Out-of-town events will incur additional costs for lodging, transportation, and meals.
    • Travel: This model offers more flexibility, allowing the club to choose specific dates and travel distances that best fit the team.
    • Supplement: Clubs typically arrange local "friendlies" (scrimmages) to maintain match fitness between tournament weekends.
  • OUR COMPETITION MODEL: WHY WE PRIORITIZE TOURNAMENTS

At Olympus FC, our primary mission is individual player development. We believe that for players to grow, they must be tested by high-quality competition in an environment that respects the time and commitment of our families.

After evaluating the current league structures in Colorado and across the Front Range, we have intentionally moved away from a traditional League-Based schedule in favor of a Tournament-Based match schedule. Here is why this model is optimal for our players and families:

    1. Purposeful Travel & Better Value

In a traditional league, families often drive three to four hours (to Denver, Boulder, or Pueblo) for a single 80-minute match. We believe the "travel-to-play" ratio in this model puts an undue strain on families.

The Tournament Advantage: By focusing on tournaments, we guarantee a 3-match minimum per weekend. This ensures that when our families travel, the developmental payoff and the "on-field" minutes are significantly higher.

    2. Advanced Scheduling & Control

League schedules are often finalized just weeks before a season begins, leaving families with little time to plan. Because league administrators determine brackets, teams often end up playing the same local opponents year after year.

The Tournament Advantage: We select our events months in advance (by late May for the Fall season). This gives our families the ability to plan their lives around a clear, predictable calendar. Furthermore, we hand-pick tournaments that  may offer fresh competition from outside the state and region, exposing our players to diverse playing styles.

    3. Accelerated Learning & Player Exposure

Growth happens when players can immediately apply feedback. In a league format, a player might have to wait an entire week to correct a mistake made in a game.

The Tournament Advantage: Playing multiple matches over a short window creates an "intensive learning" environment. Players can adjust their performance from Saturday morning to Saturday afternoon, seeing immediate results. For our older athletes, tournaments—specifically Showcases—are the primary venue for college scouting, offering exposure that standard league play rarely provides.

    4. Building a Stronger Community

Olympus FC is more than just a club; we are a community.

The Tournament Advantage: Weekend travel fosters team chemistry and family bonding in a way that single-game Saturdays cannot. These experiences provide players with vital life skills, teaching them responsibility, preparation, and the camaraderie that comes with representing their club on the road.

    What about Home Games?

While we prioritize the tournament circuit, we still value the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd. Olympus FC supplements our schedule with local friendlies against top-tier clubs, ensuring our teams maintain match fitness and local rivalries without the administrative constraints of a league.

  • THE TRAINING ADVATAGE

The Training Advantage: Developing Better Athletes

At Olympus FC, we prioritize the training pitch over the weekend commute. Because our match schedule is consolidated into tournament weekends, we are able to optimize our weekly training cycles for maximum physical and technical growth.

    Quality Over Maintenance

In a traditional league, teams play almost every Saturday. To ensure players aren't "heavy-legged" for game day, coaches are forced into a constant cycle of recovery. This typically limits a team to only one truly high-intensity practice per week.

By contrast, the Tournament-Based model allows us to utilize a "Load & Peak" methodology. During non-tournament weeks, our players engage in up to three high-intensity sessions. This allows for deeper tactical installation, more repetitions, and greater athletic conditioning.

By the Numbers: A 23-Week Season Comparison

When you look at the total "Developmental Hours" over a full fall season, the difference in high-intensity training is staggering:

    Hight Intensity (Growth)

    -League Based Season: ~23 Sessions

    -Tournament Based (OFC): ~50+ Sessions

    Medium Intensity (Tactical)

    -League Based Season: ~23 Sessions

    -Tournament Based (OFC): ~10+ Session

    Low intensity (Recovery)

    -League Based Season: ~23 Sessions

    -Tournament Based (OFC): ~9+ Sessions

Why This Matters for Your Player

    • Doubling the "Growth" Sessions: Over a six-month season, our players receive nearly double the amount of high-intensity, "limit-pushing" practices compared to a league-based peer.
    • Purposeful Tapering: During a tournament week, we shift to a "Heavy, Medium, Light" rhythm. This teaches players how to "peak" for a major event—a vital skill for high school, college, and professional sports.
    • Avoiding the "Mid-Season Plateau": League teams often plateau physically by mid-October because they are constantly in recovery mode. Our players continue to build strength and stamina throughout the entire season.

"Games are the test, but the practice field is the classroom. By choosing a tournament model, we are choosing to spend more time in the classroom."

    2. Payment: Upon receipt of the initial deposit and uniform kit payment, the club will include the player in our bulk order.
    3. Timeline: Orders are typically fulfilled within weeks of the bulk submission.
    4. Distribution: Coaches will distribute the completed kits to players during our Opening Season Camp.
  • RECREATIONAL PROGRAM?

The Olympus FC Difference: Beyond Traditional "Rec"

Why We Don't Have a "Recreational" Program We believe that every player—regardless of their current skill level—deserves professional coaching. In traditional clubs, recreational players are often priced out of proper training, receiving little more than a "team jersey" and a volunteer coach. This sets athletes up for failure if they ever decide to transition to competitive soccer, as their foundational skills often fall behind.

The Olympus FC D-Academy provides a "Competitive-Lite" experience at a recreational price point. By investing in our D-Academy, you aren't just joining a team; you are entering a development system that includes:

Professional, Paid Coaches: We ensure consistency and quality by paying our staff. Coaches who do not yet hold a National License work directly under the tutelage of our Nationally Certified staff.

Structured Methodology: Our training isn't based on random internet templates; it is a proprietary curriculum built on proven player-development principles used Nationally and in European Club Academies.

Constant Evaluation: We provide seasonal staff-level evaluations for both players and coaches to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

  • (NEW) BIRTH YEAR FORMAT FOR 26/27

Following extensive review and discussion, US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and US Club Soccer have collectively decided to move to an age group player formation cycle that runs from August 1 to July 31, starting with the 2026-27 season/registration year. This change was made based on additional critical feedback, data, and expert input to better align players with their school-grade peers.

Our associations feel that this age group player formation will be the most inclusive and help increase participation.

The August 1 to July 31 age group player formation cycle will be used for all USYS league and Cup competitions for the 2026-27 season/registration year including: National Championships, Presidents Cup, and National League.

US Youth Soccer CEO Tom Condone addressed the adjustment to the registration process:

“At US Youth Soccer, our mission is to support the development of every player. After careful collaboration with our partners and listening to our membership, we believe this shift to an August 1 player formation cycle better aligns with school calendars, supports social and individual needs, and ultimately enhances the youth soccer experience for families across the country.”

As a reminder, under U.S. Soccer’s new policy, each Federation member can determine age group registration rules for the leagues and competitions they operate or sanction. To support this transition, U.S. Soccer has introduced a tool to help parents and guardians easily understand the age groupings based on their child’s birthdate.

Again, please note that this decision is effective beginning with each Organization Member’s 2026-27 season/registration year.
